Michael Meads '18 Earns Spot in Leadership Program

Michael Meads '18A Portsmouth Abbey School student has been selected among 70 high schoolers across the country for the Four Star Leadership summer program, run by General Tommy Franks.

Michael Meads '18 will travel to Oklahoma in July to take part in the program, which aims to develop leaders who can "solve problems and communicate solutions that will propel our world to greater peace, prosperity and mutual respect." Students will learn leadership techniques from front runners in various fields, including politicians, business executives, armed service members, educational leaders, journalists, and more. The program culminates in a persuasive speech and writing competition and an Ethics Bowl tournament.

The program's core leadership principles, Character, Common Vision, Communication, and Caring, are what initially drew Michael's attention to the program. During the interview process, he explained how his time at the Abbey and his commitment to the mission of the School (Reverence, Respect, and Responsibility) prepared him for the program.

Attendees will have the opportunity to earn more than $15,000 in scholarships as well as gain internships and receive letters of recommendation.
