Facilities Director

Portsmouth Abbey School is a Catholic coeducational boarding high school with 350 students. It is owned by The Order of St. Benedict in RI.  The monks, who live on the property in the monastery, are a vital component of the community.  There are approximately 500 acres, 30 School buildings and faculty housing.   Under the general supervision of the Assistant Headmaster, The Director of Facilities directs and manages the operation of the Department including School Custodians, Grounds and Building Maintenance staff.  We are seeking a highly responsible and responsive manager who will plan, organize, direct and control all aspects of the Department operations, including building maintenance, plumbing, heating, air conditioning, electric, building security, grounds, construction projects and all other facility related management for the School buildings and properties. Essential duties include, but are not limited to:

• The Director of Facilities is an active member of the team and physically assists Maintenance / Custodial staff with hands on projects when needed

• Daily oversight and supervision of Maintenance and Custodial staff

• Prioritization and scheduling of daily workloads and summer projects  

• Oversight of seasonal tasks for grounds, and snow removal

• Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies. Executes and oversees preventive maintenance assignments

• With the CFO, maintains custody and safe keeping of all documents, files and records pertinent to facilities operations as required by town, state or federal regulations

• With the Assistant Headmaster, assures compliance with town, state and federal regulations related to facilities operations, including domestic water supply operations

• Monitors the energy management system and maintains energy system schedules for use of the buildings

• Notifies the Assistant Headmaster on updated capital project needs and the need for immediate extraordinary repairs

• Works with the Business Office on purchase orders, invoices and annual budget needs

• Sits on all committees involved with school building upgrade, renovation or construction projects  

• Conduct continuing staff training and retraining including but not limited to OSHA, EPA compliance, asbestos and MSDS

• Other duties assigned by the Assistant Headmaster.
