Summer 2016 dates:
Sunday, June 26 – Saturday, July 23

Designed for students going into seventh through eleventh grades, since 1943 the Summer Program has introduced young scholars to the unique and uplifting spirit of education that has always been a part of Portsmouth Abbey School.  Through celebrating learning, nurturing the moral sense that lies within all people, and awakening our students’ sense of who they can become, we help them progress on their paths toward wisdom, an appreciation of the fullness of life, and greater success in school—all while having a good measure of summer seaside fun, on our beautiful campus on the shores of Narragansett Bay.

Our parents and students have been highly satisfied: over the past three summers, 95% have been very happy with their child’s experience (100% in 2014), 91% would recommend us, and 85% were interested in having their child return.

As befits our Benedictine tradition, we seek our students to have a unified experience at a measured pace, while allowing for individual needs and interests. Summer Program courses are intended to engage, excite, and enrich a student’s mind, all while increasing facility with the skills necessary to be successful in school. There is homework, tests and grades, but all done in a more relaxed and easy-going manner than during the regular school year. Our afternoon enrichment program is designed to be fun, but also to expose students to new experiences and ideas. In addition to standard summer camp fare, the afternoons provide a chance for them to gain a deep understanding of this coastal environment, through the study of marine ecology, landscape painting, and outdoor education.

The Portsmouth Abbey Summer Program brings together young people from all over the world for classes, activities, athletics and trips around New England, under the care and guidance of experienced, compassionate adults. Please contact us if you have any questions, or need more materials.

Consistently, our parents and students tell us that the Summer Program is the perfect mix of academics and fun, that it provides a good head start on the next school year, and that the experience our students get with peers from all over the world is invaluable. Won’t you join us?

From our students:
"This was a college-like experience: independence with friends."

"The best part was being with my friends all the time and having great classes. I’ve had an amazing experience!"

"I wouldn’t change anything because it is so fun! Except maybe make it longer!"

From our parents:
"Our son thoroughly enjoyed the Portsmouth Abbey Summer Program. He learned a great deal about English Composition, Algebra 1, and 3D printing. Most importantly, he learned a great deal about himself."

"We are 100% pleased with our son’s experience at the Abbey. So glad we sent him!"

"My child's friends pretty much did nothing on their summer break and are envious. Parental peers of mine actively are seeking information about the Portsmouth Abbey Summer Program."

"My daughter's experience was much more than either of us expected. Having such a diverse group of students allowed her to learn about other cultures on such a personal level."
