About the Program

Founded in 1984, the Summer Study Program has gained its success and world-wide reputation of excellence by the careful planning of every aspect and component of the program, the caliber of the student participants and the excellence and reputation of the professors.

Some of the most distinguished Hispanists have taught in the Advanced Undergraduate and Graduate Program: Prof. Francisco Ruiz-Ramon and Prof. Enrique Pupo-Walker, Vanderbilt University, Prof. Luis Fernandez-Cifuentes, Harvard University, Prof. Ciriaco Morron-Arroyo, Cornell University, Prof. Roberto Echevarria, Yale University, Prof. Alfredo Hermenegildo, University of Montreal, Prof. Andres Amoros, University of Madrid, Prof. Angel Basanta, Literary critic, El Cultural (El Mundo), Madrid, Prof. James Harris, MIT, Prof. David Hertzberger, University of Connecticut, Professor Efrain Barradas, University of Florida, Professor Frederick de Armas, University of Chicago and others.

The program offers you the opportunity to develop or improve your Spanish skills in an unparalleled setting. Salamanca offers the perfect setting to immerse yourself in Spanish language and life.

Location

Founded by the Romans, the city of Salamanca offers a resplendent setting for immersion in Spanish life, language and culture. Situated in the northwest region of Spain (about 120 miles from Madrid and near the border of Portugal), Salamanca boasts one of the oldest universities in the world and the oldest in Spain, as well as the country's most magnificent examples of Renaissance and Baroque architecture, century old cathedrals, and monuments.

Academics

  • Earn up to 9 credits with an Intensive Undergraduate Language and Culture program. 
  • Placement:  All students take a placement exam to determine their level.  Students who place above intermediate level may take up to nine credits.
  • All language instructors are native speakers of Spanish.   All classes are conducted in Spanish.
  • Textbooks cost approximately 50 Euros.
  • Language Practicum:  All students may participate in small groups - not to exceed six students in the Language Practicum out side the classroom.  Each group will be assigned to a native teacher and will meet for one hour (Monday to Thursday) at a designated outside cafe.

Housing

  • Double Occupancy with a family
  • Three meals per day
  • Vegetarian accommodations available
  • Single accommodations available upon request for additional fees of 90 Euros

  • Excursion to Segovia
  • Excursions to Segovia, Galicia, leon (Three nights at four-star hotel, with side excursion to beaches)
