Select Department:

Music 1 (An Introduction To Music)

This course is for students who, though they may have little or no musical background, enjoy listening to serious music and who would like to find out more about why they enjoy it. In the first term it explores the inner workings of music and what makes it happen - i.e., rhythm, melody, harmony, and simple form. During the second and third terms students pursue their particular interest, whether it be the rudiments of music theory, an historical survey of the development of music as an art form the Middle Ages to the present, or a special topic like musical theater, jazz, folk music, etc.
