This course is designed to provide the student with an in-depth understanding of the development of the American nation from the age of exploration until today. Emphasis is placed upon the political, economic, and social movements in the nation, but cultural factors are also studied as well as some historiography of the nation's history. A secondary objective is the strengthening of the student's verbal skills through frequent written exercises. In the Spring Term all students write a research paper 1500 - 2000 words in length.
