Biology
Experiments cover three broad categories: molecular and cellular biology, organismal biology, and population biology. Along with an introduction to the concepts and vocabulary of the science of living things, major groups from among the animals and plants are identified and studied with emphasis on their interdependence. Cellular structure and function, energy usage, reproduction, heredity, evolution, behavior, and ecology are specific areas explored. An appreciation of the anatomy and physiology of the major systems of the body help students to understand the intricacies of their own bodies and what results if balance is not maintained. Laboratory experiments are correlated to a particular topic to enhance the student's awareness of how the textbook information was obtained. Emphasis is placed on current events to make the subject matter applicable and interesting.
