Over the last two summers, 37 Abbey faculty members have taken a one-week program called "Summercore" offered by The Original Teaching Company. The Summercore program is described by its founders as "A Unique Five-Day Marathon in Hardware, Software and Humanware."
Using funding from a technology professional development matching grant from the Edward E. Ford Foundation, the Abbey was able to put most of the teaching faculty through the Summercore program to give them a common foundation in using and teaching with technology. The week concluded with faculty members working in teams on their own projects and presenting them at the "Summercore Carnival" on the final morning of the program. With the matching funds the School raised for the foundation grant, we have been able to equip many of our classrooms with Smartboards and projectors to aid in the use of technology in the classroom as a supplement to teaching.
