Abbey Girls' Lacrosse standouts Madison Nunes '08 and Steph Perez '08 have been named High School Academic All-Americans for the 2007 season. This year's High School Academic All-Americans were announced July 19 by US Lacrosse, the sport's national governing body.
Nunes and Perez were among a distinguished group of high school players from across the country chosen by the High School Division Coaches Council of US Lacrosse. In order to be selected, a player had to:
- be a starter or significant contributor to her team
- carry at least 50 percent of her course load in honors- or advanced placement-level college preparatory courses
- have a cumulative weighted GPA of at least 3.6
- be a junior or senior in high school
- make significant contributions to the school and/or community beyond their athletic participation
Nunes, a midfielder, scored 33 goals for the Ravens this year, out-hustled opponents and provided valuable consistency to the line-up. She was recently named to the Providence Journal Second Team 2007 All-State Lacrosse Team and was First Team 2007 All-SENE.
A midfielder, Perez was the Ravens' dominant offensive force this season, leading the team with an impressive 58 goals (she also had 20 assists). She was a 2007 N.E. Prep School All-Star selection, named first team 2007 All-SENE and Providence Journal 2007 First Team All-State Lacrosse Team, and was recently selected Honorable Mention for the US Lacrosse High School All-American Team, a recognition accorded just 450 female high schoool lacrosse players across the country by US Lacrosse.
Nunes and Perez will co-captain the Ravens for the 2007-08 year.
The Raven's finished with a 12-4-2 record this season and placed second in the SENE.
