Portsmouth Abbey has been selected by the New England School Sailing Association to host the O'Day Trophy for the New England High School Fleet Racing Championships, on Sunday, April 27th, 2007, at the Bristol Yacht Club in Bristol, RI.
The New England Fleet Racing Championship is one of two sailing disciplines in which New England high schools compete during the spring season, the other being Team Racing. The event will showcase the top 15 high school teams in New England as they compete on short courses close to shore to determine the top team in New England.
The New England Fleet Racing Championship will also serve as the official qualification event to determine the top five New England high schools to represent the New England district at the InterScholastic Sailing Association Mallory Trophy. The Mallory Trophy, for the High School Sailing Fleet Racing National Championship, will pit the top 20 teams in the country and will be held at the United States Naval Academy, in Annapolis, Maryland, May 10 and 11, 2008.
