"Auditorium-turned-Winter-Wonderland" was the setting for the Parents' Cocktail Party, held at School on Saturday evening, February 9.
Described as an opportunity for parents to socialize and get to know one another, more than 150 parents attended and did just that. With music by jazz trio Jazz Candy providing a wonderful backdrop, guests enjoyed delicious hors d'oeuvres that were both passed and prepared at chef "action stations" manned by Sodexo traveling gourmet guest chefs.
A raffle to benefit student life at School was held and raised over $1,200. Winners of raffle items were Susan and Peter Morsilli P'11, who won four Red Sox tickets; Beth Leinberry P'10, who took home a six-liter bottle of French champagne; Patrick '86 and Kathleen Burke, who won a weekend package at the Mansion House in Martha's Vineyard; Rod and Lisa Lichtenfels P'08, '09, who won a weekend at the Atlantic Beach Club Hotel; and Tim and Patricia McGuirk P'11, winners of a golf outing and lunch for four at the Carnegie Abbey Club. Congratulations to all!
Two students, Brittany Hunt '08 and Brianne Rok '08, were also on hand to sell raffle tickets to raise money for the Appalachia Service Project 2008. Now in its 14th year, the Appalachia Service Project sends Portsmouth students to the impoverished Appalachian region during March break to help rebuild and renovate homes for families in need. A special thank you goes to Maureen and Jim Rozes P'10 who were the "first" winners of the weekend at the Atlantic Beach Club; being locals, they graciously donated the item back to the raffle. In addition, a big thank you goes to Parents' Committee Chairs Christine and Peter Ferrara P'00, '05, '08, for their help with the evening's events; Darlene Turner P'07, '09, for her time, talent and dedication in planning the event; Brenda Sgarro P'11 (x 3, yes triplets), for help with decorating; and Sheila and Jay '73 Buckley P'07, '08, for their help with selling raffle tickets.
