This year's Appalachia Service Project will depart on Saturday, March 15, with more than two dozen Abbey students, faculty and current parents heading to the impoverished Appalachia region for one week to help rebuild and renovate homes for needy families.
This is a wonderful School tradition, now in its 14th year, and continues Portsmouth's guiding principles of community outreach and service to others...but it is not an inexpensive undertaking. Total costs for this year's trip are expected to exceed $15,000. The students volunteering for the Appalchia Service trip must raise enough funds to cover their transportation, lodging and food expenses, along with the cost of the tools they will need to complete their projects.
Please consider supporting this most worthwhile Portsmouth Abbey outreach endeavor. A raffle is being held to help underwrite the costs of the trip; all proceeds will go directly toward funding the Appalachia project.
Raffle tickets cost $10.00 for one, or $25.00 for three. Tickets may be purchased at the Bookstore, on-line (click here), or by emailing the group's student leaders:
Brianne Rok '08 (brianne_rok@portsmouthabbey.org)
Jimmy Buckley '08 (james_buckley@portsmouthabbey.org)
Brittany Hunt '08 (brittany_hunt@portsmouthabbey.org
Raffle prizes include: a weekend at a New Hampshire ski house; a foursome of golf at Carnegie Abbey Club; $100 gift certificates to Brick Alley Pub in Newport, RI, and The Lobster Pot in Bristol, RI; a $40 gift certificate to the School Bookstore; and more. The drawing will be held at the beginning of March.
Thank you for your support of this valuable and meaningful Portsmouth Abbey tradition.
