AD Al Brown Inducted into Alfred University Hall of Fame
November 5, 2008

Portsmouth Abbey Athletic Director Al Brown was recently inducted into the Alfred University Athletics Hall of Fame.  Brown, a former standout men's lacrosse coach at Alfred, and three former student-athletes were honored as 2008 Hall of Fame inductees during Alfred's Homecoming Weekend in October.

Brown coached the AU men's lacrosse team for seven seasons from 1989-95.  During that time, the Saxons posted an 85-25 record, setting an AU coaching record for most career wins.  Coach Brown's teams competed in the NCAA Division III championship tournament four times and the ECAC championships twice, winning the ECAC Upstate title in 1995, his final season.  He guided the Saxons to a school single-season record 15 victories in 1990, when he was named national Division III Coach of the Year.

Coach Brown earned a bachelor's degree in health and physical education from C.W. Post College in 1975.  He played lacrosse for four seasons at C.W. Post, earning All-American honors as a defenseman in 1973 and 1974.  He also holds a master's degree in physical education, which he received from Adelphi University in 1982.

In addition to coaching men's lacrosse at Alfred, located in Alfred, New York, Brown also served as an assistant professor of physical education, director of the fitness center and as an assistant football coach.  As part of the Hall of Fame ceremonies, AU invited all former men's lacrosse team members who played under Coach Brown to return to the school and attend the Hall of Fame Banquet.

Coach Brown has been at Portsmouth Abbey since 2000 where, in addition to serving as athletic director, he is head football and boy's lacrosse coach.

Congratulations, Coach Brown!
