Four Portsmouth Abbey students attended a Math competition at Harvard University on Saturday, November 8. More than 40 schools from the northeast participated in the contest, which was a warm-up for the 12th annual Harvard-MIT Math Tournament that will be held on February 21, 2009.
Sixth Formers Jina Kim and Janet Lee were joined by Fifth Former Jason Eun and Fourth Former Hyun Ji Park. The team placed 11th in one team competition and 16th in another. Jina took 5th place overall in one individual test, while she and Jason placed 13th and 25th respectively in one of the other individual tests.
The February tournament, run exclusively by MIT and Harvard students, is one of the biggest in the United States, usually drawing over 700 participants. The Abbey team is already looking ahead to that contest.
Congratulations to these students (seen here standing next to the statue of John Harvard, founder of Harvard University) for their fine performances!
