The School's community service programs remain popular and active, with some great options now available for the academic year 2008-9.

The School maintains a ten-hour community service requirement for all students in Form IV. This program provides a window on existing volunteer work, and includes some classroom reflection on the role of service to the community. Incoming Third and Fourth Form students should be aware that the School's service requirement has been modified in two important ways. First, independent projects are now accepted in fulfillment of the requirement - students can be creative, take some initiative, and put together their own volunteer project or work with friends. Second, the direct service element of the requirement may now be completed in either Form III or Form IV. This opens up more opportunities to athletes and others who are committed to afternoon programs to complete their service work as best fits their schedule.

The School also continues to have outstanding opportunities available to all students interested in community service. As an afternoon co-curricular option, students may pursue an internship in community service, contributing their talents to local agencies as they learn. Students may create their own program or join ongoing partnerships.

Students who want to pursue either a self-designed internship or complete their service requirement this fall are encouraged to begin making arrangements. Information on all of these programs and other possible volunteer options is available on the Community Service intranet page or by contacting Director of Community Service Dr. Blake Billings at 401/643-1260.
