These are exciting times at Portsmouth Abbey. The last ten years have seen a dramatic upturn in applications and a renewed commitment to academic excellence as exemplified by the restoration of our traditional classics requirement and the creation of our humanities curriculum, which combines studies in Christian Doctrine, English and European History. Since the late 1990s we have also succeeded in doubling our endowment.
This, however, is only the beginning. We are now in the early stages of an effort to assure that students at Portsmouth have an educational and spiritual experience superior to any. This undertaking will invest in essential facilities including living space for students and faculty, renovation of our magnificent Church of Saint Gregory the Great and a complete overhaul and updating of our Science and Technology building appropriate for learning in the 21st century. Equally as important, we are raising funds to increase our endowment so we can continue to attract the finest faculty and provide more opportunities to talented scholars from around the world who would otherwise not be able to afford Portsmouth Abbey School.
These initiatives are consistent with our Benedictine tradition and will enable us to achieve our mission of transmitting the values of reverence, respect and responsibility as we help our students grow in knowledge and grace. The successful completion of these efforts will confirm Portsmouth's unique position as the country's leading independent Catholic boarding school and an educational experience second to none.
We look forward to sharing more information with you about these objectives in the months ahead.
We in the Alumni & Development Office are grateful for the enthusiasm and support of all of Portsmouth Abbey's constituents. Through this website, we hope to hear from even more of you and look forward to seeing you on campus or at some of our many regional events. Your devotion and support are sincerely appreciated. Thank you for all that you do for Portsmouth Abbey!
