Reunion '09 a Record-Setting Success
October 2, 2009
Portsmouth Abbey alumni from both near and far made their way back to campus in record numbers for Reunion weekend 2009, September 25-27. The weather on both Friday and Saturday was perfect, making golfers and Ravens' fans alike happy to be outside. More than 290 alumni and their families from around the globe were welcomed back to Portsmouth, many returning for the first time in decades.Â
The weekend was full of activities. Friday night, classes gathered off-campus at various locations from restaurants to private homes to celebrate with their fellow classmates. Saturday was packed with events: class visits, tours of campus, a New England clambake and Portsmouth Abbey athletic contests, finished off with a gala dinner Saturday evening. Sunday morning, alumni attended Mass and brunch before heading back home.
Highlights of the weekend included cocktails outside on the patio of the Administration Building, a tour of the wind turbine, a special Reunion class given by Dom Damian Kearney '45, and the kids' carnival, complete with face painting and bounce house. Fireworks were spotted flying over campus during the evening, a surprise to all!
All in all, it was clear that everyone enjoyed a weekend reminiscing about the Portsmouth of their memories and also learning a little bit about the Portsmouth Abbey of today. Next year's Reunion '10 for classes ending in zero or five will be held the weekend of October 1-3. Mark your calendars now to save the date!
