League/Schedule
Portsmouth Abbey is a member of the Eastern Independent League (EIL). The EIL provides Portsmouth Abbey student-athletes the opportunity for rigorous competition with schools of similar size and athletic philosophy. EIL member schools include Bancroft School, Beaver Country Day, Berwick Academy, Concord Academy, Dana Hall School, Landmark School, Lexington Christian, Newton Country Day, Pingree School and Winsor School. We also compete against traditional rivals St. George's, Pomfret, St. Mark's, Lincoln, Wheeler, and Marianapolis. The team finished 12-8 overall in 2010-2011, and 10-2 in the EIL.
Coaching Philosophy
The Girls' Basketball program at Portsmouth Abbey encourages students to reach their full potential both on and off the court. Players are challenged to improve their individual ball handling skills, shooting, defense and rebounding in order to improve as a team and attain team goals set throughout the season. Portsmouth Abbey has a gym dedicated to the Girls' Basketball Program, which includes both a Junior Varsity and Varsity level, allowing ample practice time to thoroughly prepare for each contest. Team play is stressed in all aspects with a particular emphasis on team defense, forcing our opponents to earn every point they score.
Contact
Portsmouth Abbey is looking for hard-working, goal-oriented and enthusiastic student-athletes who are looking to develop their skills in the classroom and on the basketball court. For more information please fill out our Student-Athlete Questionnaire.
