League/Schedule
The Portsmouth Abbey School Boys' Tennis program plays its home matches on six regulation courts on campus. The tennis team competes in the Eastern Independent League (EIL). The EIL provides Portsmouth Abbey student-athletes the opportunity for rigorous competition with schools of similar size and athletic philosophy. EIL member schools include Bancroft School, Beaver Country Day, Berwick Academy, Concord Academy, Dana Hall School, Landmark School, Lexington Christian, Newton Country Day, Pingree School and Winsor School.
Coaching Philosophy
The Varsity Tennis program at Portsmouth Abbey School encourages students to reach their potential in the classroom as well as on the tennis court and fosters a healthy respect for coaches, officials, opponents, and the game itself. Because tennis demands both team stability and an individual commitment to hard, physical work, we train our athletes in both physical and mental aspects of the game. Practices are fast-paced and include many fitness, conditioning, and technical drills. We also encourage players to develop their overall athleticism by participating in other sports. In 2011, Ed Kielb was undefeated in league play, and named EIL Most Valuable Player.
