League/Schedule
Portsmouth Abbey is a member of the Eastern Independent League (EIL). The EIL provides Portsmouth Abbey student-athletes the opportunity for rigorous competition with schools of similar size and athletic philosophy. EIL member schools include Bancroft School, Beaver Country Day, Berwick Academy, Concord Academy, Dana Hall School, Landmark School, Lexington Christian, Newton Country Day, Pingree School and Winsor school. We also compete against traditional rivals St. George's, Tabor Academy, Marianapolis, Southfield School and Wheeler. The team finished the 2011 season with an overall record of 10-3, and 6-2 in the EIL. Coach Elliott Moffie was selected as the EIL Coach of the Year.
Coaching Philosophy
The Softball program at Portsmouth Abbey encourages students to reach their full potential both on and off the field. Players are challenged to improve their individual hitting, fielding, pitching and base-running in order to improve as a team and attain team goals set throughout the season. Portsmouth Abbey recently completed a new softball facility on the lower campus, and the team has access to indoor batting cages during inclement weather. Sportsmanship and team play is stressed in all aspects with a particular emphasis on team defense, forcing our opponents to earn every run they score.
