League/Schedule
Portsmouth Abbey is a member of the Eastern Independent League (EIL). The EIL provides Portsmouth Abbey student-athletes the opportunity for rigorous competition with schools of similar size and athletic philosophy. EIL member schools include Bancroft School, Beaver Country Day, Berwick Academy, Concord Academy, Dana Hall School, Landmark School, Lexington Christian, Newton Country Day, Pingree School and Winsor School. We also compete against traditional rivals St. George's, Tabor, Wheeler School, Lincoln School and Worcester Academy.
Coaching Philosophy
The Girls' Lacrosse program at Portsmouth Abbey School encourages players to set and strive for goals, both individually and as a team. To this end, players decide on the focus for the season and continually revisit their goals to measure progress. Players strive to improve their individual ball handling skills as well as their understanding of team play. Players and coaches work to create a supportive team atmosphere where students grow not just athletically, but as people and as members of a team. Sportsmanship is always a priority. While we work hard on fitness and skills, we never forget that sports, and the camaraderie of a team, should also be fun. We seek to respect and enjoy the game and each other every time we step onto the field. The team finished the 2011 season with an overall record of 7-5, and 7-2 in the EIL. Caitlin Villareal, class of 2012, was selected as a US Lacrosse Academic All-American and a 2011 High School Underclassmen All-American. She will represent the New England region in the 2011 National Lacrosse Classic in July.
