Athletics, Recreational Activities, and Water:
- Portsmouth Abbey's 17,000-square-foot, air-conditioned Squash & Fitness Center includes a large fitness room with a mirrored free-weights center, weight machines, cardio equipment, and sound system!
It features three sides of exterior glass with spectacular views of Narragansett Bay and playing fields.
It has seven international squash courts, one combination international squash/racquetball court, and
comfortable places to relax, that can be utilized by the entire Summer Program community.
- There is plenty of room on our 200-acre campus for soccer, Frisbee football, outdoor volleyball, softball, running, or simply walking with friends.
- Summer Program participants also have full use of the School's two gymnasiums, tennis courts, and a 400-meter, all-weather outdoor track.
- When it is too hot we just head to the many beaches that make Rhode Island one of the best vacation places to cool off!

- Sailing: Learning to sail a J/22 is the best way to experience Newport in the summer whether you are just beginning or are an experienced sailor. (A separate fee is required.)
- Equestrian: Learning to ride a horse or keeping your skills sharp is a fun way to pass the afternoon. (A separate fee is required.)
- Golf: Play a few rounds on Carnegie Abbey's magnificent links course, or get instruction from professionals each afternoon. (A separate fee is required.)

Wednesday Afternoons, Sunday Trips & Saturday Movies:
- Newport's Cliff Walk is a 3.5-mile path that begins at Easton's (or First) Beach on Memorial Boulevard and ends at the tip of Bailey's Beach on Bellevue Avenue--a wonderful stroll between the famed Gilded Age Mansions and spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean! Along the way the students can visit The Breakers--perhaps the most famous of Newport's summer "cottages"--and get a sense of the extraordinary life born of the industrial growth of the nation during the late 19th century.

- Martha's Vineyard is a short ferry ride and one of the most delightful excursions we take each summer. Students have an opportunity to ride their bikes along the Vineyard Haven-Oak Bluffs-Edgartown Loop or any of the more than 60 miles of well-developed, paved bike paths, swim at South Beach, or simply take the bus into Edgartown for shopping and ice cream.
- Boston's Freedom Trail is a 2.5-mile path that begins at Boston Common and ends at the Bunker Hill Monument. Students will not only get a sense of the importance of this period of history for all those interested in freedom, but they will have a chance to savor the food, shopping, and entertainment surrounding Faneuil Hall Market Place!
- Six Flags New England with all the thrill rides, food, and fun you can pack into one day. The students particularly enjoy the water park with two, 500,000-gallon wave pools.

- Beaches, beaches, and more beaches! Second Beach/Sachuset Town Beach, Narragansett Town Beach, Misquamicut State Beach, and more...
- Saturday Night at the Movies! Rhode Island has a sufficient number of movie theaters in a relatively small area to keep the students ahead of the blockbusters!
