MAJOR ATHLETIC AWARDS
The Athletic Board Award - Selected by the Varsity Coaching Staff and the Atletic Director, this award is presented each year to members of the Sixth Form who exhibit outstanding playing ability, sportsmanship, leadership, effort and dedication in each of the three seasons of athletics. Recipients' names are displayed in the Gym lobby.
Sixth Form Varsity Athlete Award - Presented to those members of the graduating class who have successfully participated in a varsity sport in each of three seasons of their Sixth Form year. The recipients of this award have displayed tremendous commitment and dedication to our athletic program.
Scholar-Athlete Award -The Scholar-Athlete Award recognizes a male and a female student in the Sixth Form who, during the course of the school year, earns three varsity letters while maintaining Dean's List status during those same three terms. The students who will receive this award epitomize what we have come to call: The Student-Athlete. They have proven themselves talented scholars and dedicated athletes.
ENDOWED ATHLETIC AWARDS
Fall
The Girls' Field Hockey Trophy - A gift to Portsmouth Abbey by the Hannaford family, the girls' trophy is presented each year to the player who best exhibits a strong desire to compete, a positive attitude, and humility both on and off the field, thus making her a natural and dependable leader.
The Girls' Soccer Trophy - A gift to the School by the Gontarz family, this trophy is awarded annually to the player who best combines the qualities of dependability, dedication, and selflessness in uniting and leading her team.
The William Franklin Sands Memorial Soccer Trophy - Given in memory of their father by James Sands, Class of 1932, Robert Sands, Class of 1933, and John Sands, Class of 1940, the trophy recognizes players who have shown courtesy, courage, and skill that have made them dependable teammates and natural leaders.
The John M. Hogan Football Trophy - This football trophy is given in honor of John M. Hogan of the Class of 1954 to that member of the graduating class who shows the kind of ability, initiative, dedication and team spirit that have distinguished Jack Hogan as an athlete and an alumnus.
Winter
The Carlos Xavier Araujo Memorial Squash Trophy - This trophy is awarded in loving memory of Carlos Xavier Araujo to the squash player who best exemplifies Carlos' perseverance, sportsmanship, sense of humor and vitality.
The Dom Bede Gorman Memorial Basketball Trophy - This award is presented each year to the player who best exhibits the qualities that made Dom Bede Gorman a much-respected and admired member of the Portsmouth Abbey community. Love of the game, sportsmanship, character, ability and commitment distinguish this recipient as a valued teammate and leader.
The Andrew M. Hunt & Carol Meehan Hunt
Boys' & Girls' Hockey Trophy - Given in honor of Mr. Andrew M. Hunt and his wife, Carol Meehan Hunt, generous donors of the Portsmouth Abbey hockey rink. This award recognizes a boy and a girl from the hockey program who embody the leadership, character and devotion to team and program that has made them valuable and dependable teammates.
The Pfeffer Cup - Established by Jane and Jim Pfeffer '69 in recognition of the achievements of their daughters, Abby '01 and Eliza '01, as members of the girls basketball program from 1997-2001. The Pfeffer Cup recognizes a player whose strong character makes her emblematic of Portsmouth Abbey's highest ideals. Through leadership, the love of and commitment to the game of basketball, and with a strong sense of teamwork, she has been a force for excellence while a member of the Portsmouth Abbey girls' basketball program.
Spring
The Boys' Lacrosse Trophy - This trophy has been given to Portsmouth Abbey by the Frost family to recognize a member of the boys' lacrosse team who has contributed in significant ways to the School's lacrosse program and whose passion for the game is best exemplified by his leadership, fair play, and gentlemanly conduct.
The Girls' Lacrosse Trophy - A gift to Portsmouth Abbey by the Hannaford family, the girls' lacrosse trophy is presented each year to the player who best exhibits a strong desire to compete, a positive attitude, and humility both on and off the field, thus making her a natural and dependable leader.
The Robert Price Sailing Trophy - Given by the family of Robert Price of the Class of 1971 to the sailor whose skill, leadership and love of sailing have been of the greatest value to the members of the team.

The Boys' Golf Coach's Trophy - The Coach's Trophy is presented to the player on the Boys' Golf Team who best combines the highest level of leadership, skill and commitment.
The Boys' Cross-Country Coach's Trophy - The Coach's Trophy is presented to the member of the Boys' Cross-Country Team who best combines the highest level of leadership, skill and commitment.
The Girls' Cross-Country Coach's Trophy - The Coach's Trophy is presented to the member of the Girls' Cross-Country Team who best combines the highest level of leadership, skill and commitment.
Winter
Girls' Squash Coach's Trophy - This trophy is presented to the player who best combines the highest level of leadership, skill and commitment.
Boys' Swimming Coach's Trophy - The Coach's Trophy is presented to the member of the Byos' Swim Team who best combines the highest level of leadership, skill and commitment.
Girls' Swimming Coach's Trophy - The Coach's Trophy is presented to the member of teh Girls' Swim Team who best combines the highest level of leadership, skill and commitment.

The Baseball Coach's Trophy - The Coach's Trophy is presented to the player who best combines the highest level of leadership, skill and commitment.
The Girls' Golf Coach's Trophy - The Coach's Trophy is presented to the member of the Girl's Golf Team who best combines the highest level of leadership, skill and commitment.
The Softball Coach's Trophy - The Coach's Trophy is presented to the player who best combines the highest level of leadership, skill and commitment.

The Track Coach's Trophy: The Coach's Trophy is presented to the member of the Track & Field Team who best combines the highest level of leadership, skill and commitment.
J.V. AWARDS
Junior Varsity Awards (All J.V. Teams)
The Portsmouth Abbey Junior Varsity Award is given to the athlete, on each J.V. Team, who best demonstrates the spirit of Abbey athletics. The award recognizes hard work, individual improvement, sportsmanship, and a willingness to do what is best for the team.
