Soccer - Girls' Varsity VS Pingree School
at Pingree
11/8/08 (A)
Results: 2-1 OT (Win)
The PAS Girls' Varsity Soccer team participated in the A Bracket of the EIL Tournament with
Pingree
School, Dana Hall, and Newton Country Day. The Abbey drew undefeated EIL League Champion Pingree in the first round and came up with a 2-1 victory in overtime. Pingree's only goal came at the 11:00 minute mark of the second half when they were awarded a PK after an aggressive slide tackle by Jasmin Amaral against a Pingree attacker. The Abbey redeemed that call at the 21:00 minute mark when attacker
Riley Grant scored on a beautiful goal from just outside the top corner of the 18 yard box. In the second half of overtime with a minute on the clock Brigid Behan of
Newport finally broke past the defense to score an unassisted goal to defeat Pingree and advance to the Championship game against Dana Hall.
In the championship match of the EIL Tournament the Abby drew Dana Hall and quickly found itself down a goal at the 2:30 mark. Merritt Bauer found the back of the net off an assist from
Riley Grant to bring the game even. Dana Hall scored off a direct kick just before the half that managed to squirt through the hands of goalie Kathleen Timmons. The relentless attack of the Abby eventually paid off when Brigid Behan found Tori Sgarro to tie the game at the 54:00 minute mark. The contest continued through overtime and ended in a shootout in which the Abbey came up short.
The Abbey Girls' Varsity Soccer team concluded the season at 7-4-4 and conducted themselves well in the EIL Tournament.
