League/Schedule
Portsmouth Abbey is a member of the Eastern Independent League (EIL). The EIL provides Portsmouth Abbey student-athletes the opportunity for rigorous competition with schools of similar size and athletic philosophy. EIL member schools include Bancroft School, Beaver Country Day, Berwick Academy, Chapel Hill-Chauncy Hall, Concord Academy, Dana Hall School, Landmark School, Lexington Christian, Newton Country Day, Pingree School and Winsor School. We also compete against traditional rivals St. George's, Tabor, Pomfret, Worcester Academy, and Vermont Academy. The team plays its home games in front of passionate fans in a "Hoosiers"-style gym on campus.
The Portsmouth Abbey Varsity program travels to Bancroft School to play in a Christmas tournament each December. Over summer vacation, both participants and coaches attend numerous camps to strengthen and hone their basketball knowledge and skills. In the 2007-2008 season, the team finished with an EIL record of 2-13, and an overall record of 2-16.
Coaching Philosophy
The Portsmouth Abbey Basketball program believes in providing a challenging and educational experience both on and off the court. Basketball players are expected to strive to reach their very best academically, socially and athletically. The coaching staff believes in a smart, aggressive brand of basketball that honors the game with strong defense and a quick-paced offense. Practices emphasize working together to win as a team with respect for the opponent, officials, fans, and the game.
