Five Ravens Are ProJo Independent Stars

The Providence Journal has named five Portsmouth Abbey varsity athletes to its All-State Independent Star Category for the fall 2007 season (pictured above from left). Congratulations to:

Julian Allison 
     6'3," 265 lbs., Sixth Form, Football, Carlisle, MA
     4-year starter and letter winner
     All-Evergreen Football League 2006 & 2007
     Voted the Most Valuable Lineman in the Evergreen Football League
     All-New England Class C 2007
     Captain 2007
     John Hogan Football Award - Portsmouth Abbey 2007 for leadership, commitment and skill
     Offensive and defensive Line: His blocking lead a potent ground game and the Portsmouth Abbey Ravens to a 
          5-3 Evergreen League record.

Nick White 
     6'4," 220 lbs., Sixth Form, Football QB,  Hull, MA
     3-year starter at Quarterback
     All-League in 2006 & 2007
     All-New England Class C 2007
     Captain 2007
     Threw 6 TD passes and rushed for 331 yards in senior year, leading Portsmouth Abbey to 5-3
          Evergreen Football league  record.
                     

Olivia Fay 
     Fourth Form, Cross Country, West Palm Beach, FLA
     Eastern Independent League (EIL) MVP for Cross Country
     Placed first at the Eastern Independent League (EIL) Meet
     Placed first at the New England Class C Championship
     Led Portsmouth Abbey to 21-2 record
     Season-best time of 19:44 at Franklin Park, Boston, MA

Stephanie Perez
     Sixth Form, Field Hockey, East Providence, RI
     4-year letter winner in Field Hockey
     Team captain in 2007
     Scored 2 goals and 4 assists leading the Abbey to an 8-6-4 record in the Eastern Independent League (EIL) 
     Best record since '99
     All-State in lacrosse 2005, 2006 & 2007
     Fierce competitor and leader who controlled play on the offensive and defensive ends of the field

Maggie McCarthy
     Sixth Form, Girls Soccer, Portsmouth, RI
     2007 Captain
     Controlled offensive and defensive play from her sweeper position
     4-year varsity letter winner and starter at sweeper
     Scored 6 goals from sweeper position in senior year
     Anchored the defense which allowed only 19 goals in 16 games
