
Abbey grads Perry '06 and Georgia '07 Markell are making their mark on women's lacrosse at Elmira College. In an impressive showing last week, the sisters, both attacks, netted a combined 9 goals and four assists to lift the Soaring Eagles over SUNY Oswego, 16-12. Perry led the way with five goals, three assists, and Georgia followed with four goals, one assist. The pair have combined in previous games to score for the Elmira team, with Georgia assisting her elder sister on several occasions.
The Elmira team is currently 4-7, with Perry leading the team several categories, including goals, points, groundballs and draw controls. A sophomore, she has recently garnered "Player of the Week" honors in women's lacrosse for the Empire Eight Conference in New York after scoring a career-high six goals against Clarkson University. She has also twice been named Elmira College's "Athlete of the Week" since this season started. Perry is a Founder's Scholar at Elmira, and Georgia is a Mark Twain Scholar.
Both Markells were standouts during their careers at Portsmouth, with Perry earning Honorable Mention All-American during her Sixth Form year in 2006. She was First Team, All-League (SENE) in 2005 and 2006; All-State in '05 and '06; a New England Prep School Women's Lacrosse Association All-Star in '05 and '06; and won the Raven's Coach's Award for Lacrosse in '05 and '06. A four-year starter, she captained the Ravens for two years. Georgia earned All-League, Second Team (SENE) honors in 2007 and was Honorable Mention All-League in 2005.
