The Portsmouth Abbey School Athletic Department encourages players and coaches to strive for excellence.  The following milestones from the 2009-2010 school year reflect the achievements of our student-athletes and coaches across each of the three seasons.

• Boys' Cross Country went undefeated (8-0) and won the league championship (EIL).
• Kaitlin Patton, '11 won the Newport County Cross Country Race.
• Ryan Silva, '10 and Luke Gleason, '10 were selected to the All-New England Football Team.
• Brigid Behan, '11 (Soccer), Ethan DaPonte, '10 (Soccer), Luke Gleason, '10 (Football), Ryan Silva, '10 (Football) and Owen Rischmann, '10 (Soccer) earned fall sport All-State honors from the Providence Journal.
• Boys' and Girls' Swimming won the Providence Cup.
• Quent Dickmann, '10 broke his own school swimming record in the 200 Free.
• Girls' Squash won the Class C New England Championship for the third time.
• Girls' Basketball won their third consecutive league championship (EIL).
• Kathleen Timmons, '10 was awarded the Girls' Basketball league MVP (EIL) and scored 1398 points tying the school record.
• Quent Dickmann, '10 (Swimming), Kathleen Timmons, '10 (Basketball) and Genna Kyriakides, '10 (Ice Hockey) earned winter sport All-State honors from the Providence Journal.
• Sailing won their second consecutive New England Fleet Racing Championship.
• Boys' Lacrosse won the league championship (EIL).
• Boys' Track won the Odell Invitational.
• Makonnen Jackman, '10 broke two school records in the 100 Meters and the High Jump. He also won the High Jump at the New England Division III Track and Field Championship.
• Abigail Shea, '11 (Softball), Grace Popham, '10 (Lacrosse), Kathleen Timmons, '10 (Lacrosse), Makonnen Jackman, '10 (Track and Field), Matthew Brigham, '11 (Lacrosse) and Evan Silvia, '10 (Lacrosse) earned spring sport All-State honors from the Providence Journal.
• Cross Country head coach Dan McDonough, Girls' Varsity Basketball head coach Elizabeth Benestad and Girls' Varsity Squash head coach Corie McDermott were voted League Coach of the Year (EIL).
• Boys' Lacrosse head coach and Portsmouth Abbey Athletic Director, Al Brown, was selected as the US Lacrosse Coach of the Year for Eastern New England.
