Hey y'all!
My name is Lauren Thompson, and this year, I'm a Vth Former (junior for those of you who haven't figured out the form thing yet- you get used to it J). I'm from Warner Robins, Georgia, so this is pretty far from home for me. I love living in New England though; it's so different from the south, and there are so many things I would have missed if I'd never lived here. Snow, for one thing, was a big surprise my IIIrd Form year. I come from a place where the possibility of snow is enough to shut down the town! (Advice for those of you considering coming that live in warmer climates: bring sweaters and other clothing that is easy to layer.) Sometimes living so far from home is difficult, but for the most part, it's really easy to adjust to dorm life at the Abbey. In previous years at the Abbey, I've lived in both St. Mary's and Manor House; this year, I'm living in St. Brigid's, a Vth and VIth Form dorm. It's definitely different from either dorm I've lived in before, but I love it so far. The only downside is that the construction for the new boys dorm is happening literally right outside my window, and sometimes that gets a little noisy; but hopefully construction will be done soon (the dorm construction has definitely already made progress from where it was at the end of last year). Because it's the third week, people have already settled into the normal routine for the Abbey- classes, sports, sit- down dinners, study hall, all of it. For me, Vth Form classes are definitely more challenging than IIIrd or IVth Form classes- the teachers are starting to prepare you for college, and the college application process- but I love all the classes, especially AP US History. Dance is also pretty busy at the moment: we have about four weeks until our recital, so we're starting to choreograph and learn our recital pieces. It's definitely accurate to say that life at the Abbey can be hurried sometimes, but for the most part, I love every moment of it.
