Previous research experience is a plus. Qualifications for teaching include at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Biology or equivalent.

Science at Portsmouth Abbey takes place in a brand-new, state-of-the-art, 34,000 square foot building that includes 7 classrooms, 7 fully-equipped laboratories, and a student project lab that houses two 3-D printers, an array of tools, and our robotics program. In addition to core and Advanced Placement courses and timely electives, students are eligible to apply for Portsmouth Abbey Science Grants (up to $500) to conduct their own research on a project of their choice. Our location on Narragansett Bay also gives us a beautiful natural laboratory with ample access to the shoreline and an estuary.

Founded in 1926 and owned by the Order of St. Benedict, Portsmouth Abbey School is New England’s premier co-educational, Catholic, Benedictine boarding and day school. Admission to Portsmouth is selective and the school is fully enrolled with 360 boys and girls. The magnificent campus is ideally situated with easy access to Newport, Providence, and Boston.

Faculty members are expected to participate in all aspects of the school. Faculty appointments normally include two seasons of coaching athletics and responsibility in a dormitory as a houseparent. Each faculty member serves as an advisor for 5-7 students.
