Fond Farewells

As the academic year comes to a close, the Abbey is wishing a heartfelt farewell to colleagues who will be enjoying their well-deserved retirement.

Athletic Director Alfred Brown and Athletic Coordinator Linda Brown will retire at the end of June 2022 after 22 years of service to Portsmouth Abbey School. They have worked together in the athletics department for the duration of their tenure. Linda was also Head Houseparent in St. Mary’s House for seven years and the assistant golf coach for four years. You can read more about their impact on the School here.

Kathy Heydt has served the School for over 20 years, first as Assistant Director of Communications and for the past decade as Director of Communications. Kathy has overseen the creation and updating of websites, produced more than forty alumni Bulletin magazines, designed 20 Annual Reports, and countless invitations and print materials. Her attention to detail and expertise in graphic design have been indispensable to the Abbey.

“Kathy has lent her talent to the School community for more than twenty years; first supporting and later helming the Office of Communication.  Under her leadership, the School has seen an increase in the quality of all of our digital and print materials with the highest attention to detail.  Her keen eye for design, high level technical skills, and fastidious editing have elevated the external profile of our School.  Kathy has been an open and warm colleague with a razor-sharp wit.  She will be missed for her talents and even more so for her friendship.  We wish her every happiness in her retirement.” - Patty Gibbons, Director of Advancement.

Roberta (Bobbie) Stevens has been with the School for more than 50 years, the latter half of which she spent as the Director of the School and Monastery Libraries. Bobbie has provided library leadership to the Portsmouth Abbey community for more than two decades. In that time, the School library has seen significant growth in areas of collection development and access to electronic resources. She has also helped catalog nearly 50,000 items in the Monastery library. A true lifelong learner, Bobbie has always demonstrated passion and enthusiasm for her work. Although she is retiring from the School library, she will continue to assist the monks in the Monastery library for the 2022-23 school year.
