Abbey Alum Publishes Her First Novel

Ms Bonina and her English Class

Mrs. Bonin tells her class about her former student Rosaria Munda ’10 and her newly published YA fantasy novel—Fireborne—that drops TODAY!

This is a big day for one of Portsmouth Abbey’s own, and for Portsmouth Abbey itself! Sara Munda ’10 has published Fireborne, a debut novel, very early in her writing career; G.P. Putnam and Sons/Penguin Teen bid not just on her first book, but on the trilogy, called "The Aurelian Cycle." It has already proved popular with those who pre-read the book both here at the Abbey and beyond. In her dedication, she thanks various teachers, along with Portsmouth Abbey, for "being my Hogwarts.” This novel absolutely has elements of Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, Divergent, and Game of Thrones in its story of revolution, class, romance, and dragon-riding—the dragon-riding! It’s thrilling. While published as a YA novel, it’s a fun read for all ages. Penguin’s comment on the inside jacket of the book testifies to its being a compelling read: “From debut author Rosaria Munda comes a gripping adventure that calls into question what matters most: the family you were born into, or the one you’ve chosen."

We at the Abbey cannot be more proud, and we delight in sharing this day with her. This would make a great gift with the holidays approaching, but be sure to pick up a copy for yourself!
