On the weekend of February 28, 2020, two Abbey sports teams finished their winter seasons on a high note.
Girls Varsity Hockey finished the season strong with a 3-2 OT victory over Berwick in the EIL championship game held at Warrior Arena.
Elizabeth LePage '21 got the scoring started 6:37 into the first period to put the Ravens up 1-0.
Berwick came back to tie the game at 1-1 before the end of the first period.
After Berwick went up 2-1 with 5:51 left in the second period, Danielle Longuemare '23 responded 45 seconds later to tie the game at 2-2 assisted by Sara DeSousa '23.
After a scoreless, back and forth third period, Isabella DiReda '23 scored the game-winning goal 11:02 into overtime assisted by Sara DeSousa and secured the Raven's third EIL championship in four seasons.
Sofia Cebrero '23 had 32 saves in goal to secure the win.

The hosting Portsmouth Abbey Boy's Squash team captured this year's New England Championships on Saturday with three thrilling 4 - 3 victories. Their first win of the day was against Canterbury. Winning their matches were Matt Luizza at #1 (3), Marco Cristiani at #2 (5), Ethan Leviss at #4 (4) and William Hurlbut at #6 (3). The teams second victory was against Salsbury. Luizza (3), Cristiani (3) and Hurlbut (3) were again victorious.
John Owen Habib at #7 (5) won his last game 11-9 putting his team into the championship round. The final match against Trinity Pawling was nothing short of thrilling with all of the competitive ups and downs. Liuzza won by forfeit, Leviss (3) and Hurlbut (4) continued to win at their positions. John Owen Habib at #7 (4) came back from being down after his first game to win his next three games catapulting the team to their 2020 New England Championship. Owen Habib had a number of game points against him in his fourth game but fought those off to earn his biggest career win. The 2019 team finished second in the New England's by just 1 point making this years accomplishment that much more special for all.
