The Art Club at Portsmouth Abbey School initiated a community-wide art project throughout the winter term, following almost a year of intermittent isolation.
On the walls of the gallery were four words, initially outlined with tacks; Hope, Vision, Listen, Unity. Art Club members felt these words represented something to look forward to in the new year. They inspired, provoked conversation, and maybe even helped the Abbey community realize a new goal.
All in the community were invited to #WeaveTogether each of the letters on the wall by wrapping and entwining various yarn colors around the tacks, thus bringing the words to life. Over 60 individuals stopped by the gallery to participate in the weaving project and then shared their thoughts and photos on social media. The Club and community were thrilled with the results and have already started discussing next year’s community art project.
