Form III October 2020
Hello Third Form Parents!
It is hard to believe that it is almost November and we are in the final stretch of the Fall term. The Third Form is off to a great start this year, and there are many highlights! Please congratulate the newly elected student government, President Helena Cerutti. Later this term the Vice President and house representatives will be chosen. Fall sports clinics have concluded and Spring sports started on Wednesday; in addition, active clubs have been providing information and recruiting members and these are all ways our children are forging new friendships. The students have also started health classes addressing topics such as: risks and addiction potential associated with vaping and nicotine use, cannabis use, alcohol use and binge drinking; review of safe use of over the counter medications and how to read drug labels; and, signs/symptoms of concussion. All important information as our children enter their high school years.
We hope everyone enjoyed our ‘reimagined’ Parents’ Weekend as much as we did. The weekend was quite different than how Parents' Weekend is traditionally hosted, due to the limitations and the commitment to safety, however it will be quite memorable. It was great to ‘connect’ with so many of you throughout the virtual events and programming. We enjoyed attending classes and teacher conferences, gaining a firsthand view of the dedication and passion of our faculty and a sense of what it means to grow in knowledge and grace. We are so grateful to our monks, faculty, administrators, coaches and staff for all of the guidance and support they so graciously offer our children.
As you know, October is Parent Participation Month for the Annual Fund. Thanks to the generous contributions to-date Third Form Participation is currently at 55.4% participation. We are very excited to be close to reaching the minimum of 60% parent participation by the end of the month to unlock the Parent’s Association leadership contribution of $22,000. Please support the Annual Fund and make a pledge or gift this month and help us reach out goal!
As your Form III Parent Chairs, we feel very honored to have this opportunity to assist and support the Portsmouth Abbey parent community. Please be sure to access the Parent Portal weekly. If you are having trouble navigating the site, please let us know and we will help. School Mass is held on Saturday at 5:40 pm EDT and Sunday at 9:30am EST, and parents are able to attend virtually by clicking on the link on the Portsmouth Abbey Monastery website (https://www.portsmouthabbeymonastery.org/) or the Monastery button at the bottom of the Portsmouth Abbey homepage. In addition, there is a Parent Lectio group that currently meets via Zoom weekly. Please reach out to us if you would like to learn more or be added to the invitation.
As the end of the Fall term and preparation for the first set of final exams approaches, do not hesitate to reach out to us with any questions or concerns.
We wish you all a wonderful fall!
