Full-Time Registered Nurse

Portsmouth Abbey School is seeking a full-time Registered Nurse to work as part of the medical services team in the School’s Infirmary. This is a full-time salaried position with a schedule requiring availability from late August to early June annually with time off during the School’s regularly scheduled breaks. The Infirmary is staffed 24 hours per day, 7 days per week while school is in session, and the position requires the ability to work two 25 hour shifts weekly, with the availability of a nurses’ apartment for sleeping while on-call during the overnight hours. Applicant must possess a valid license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Rhode Island and current CPR certification. Prior experience working with an adolescent population is preferred.

Founded in 1926 and owned by the Order of St. Benedict, Portsmouth Abbey School is the nation’s premier co-educational, Catholic, Benedictine boarding and day school. Admission to Portsmouth is selective and the school is fully enrolled with 360 boys and girls. The magnificent campus is ideally situated on the shores of Narragansett Bay with easy access of Newport, Providence, and Boston.

Responsibilities

· Assess and treat boarding and day students for illnesses and injuries per medical guidelines of Portsmouth Abbey School.

· Facilitate referral to and/or consultation with the School Physician or other medical specialists as needed.

· Provide direct nursing care to students who are admitted for inpatient observation in the Infirmary.

· Document all nursing care using the Magnus Health online student medical record.

· Administer and document daily medications for boarding students; follow-up for noncompliant students.

· Administer emergency care to students/staff/faculty and refer for emergency medical services as needed.

· Perform on-site CLIA waived lab testing, coordinate outside lab testing, radiology referrals, and medical specialist appointments as needed.

· Communicate and collaborate daily with RNs, school physician, school psychologists, parents, coaches, houseparents, faculty, and staff to coordinate students’ health related needs.

· Review and maintain confidential student records of immunizations, physical exams, health history, and other relevant health information.

· Participate in annual Flu Shot Clinic, Vaccinate Before You Graduate Clinics, and department meetings as needed.
