Five Raven-Athletes named to Providence Journal 2025 Independent Schools All-State team

The Providence Journal has named five Portsmouth Abbey School athletes to its 2025 Independent Schools All-State team. Members were selected by the newspaper’s sports journalists with help from the coaches' associations. Several players are multi-sport and multi-year honorees.

After winning EIL Boys Soccer Player of the Year and earning an all-conference selection in wrestling, Portsmouth, Rhode Island’s Gabriel Devaney is headed to Catholic University in Washington, D.C. for track and field. This season saw him run a 16.09-second 110-meter hurdles and 39.8-second 300-meter hurdles.

Another multi-sport star, Grilli made the All-EIL team in field hockey and girls lacrosse. The defender from Portsmouth, Rhode Island saw her first career goal come on senior day. Grilli will not be playing either sport on the collegiate level but is headed to Northeastern University in the fall.

Jimbo, from Torrance, California, made the All-EIL ice hockey team and baseball squad this year. After scoring 45 points on the ice, he was drafted by the Worcester Railers Junior Hockey Club, where he’ll continue his hockey career as a forward.

Canuel, from Westport, Mass., continues the list of multi-sport athletes by making the All-EIL team in volleyball during the fall and softball in the spring. She will attend Gordon College in the fall to continue her softball career.

A three-sport athlete in soccer, ice hockey and tennis, Aubut-Lavin from
Montreal-Ouest, Quebec, made the All-EIL team in soccer while also making the All-Holt team in hockey. He was drafted by the Boston Junior Terriers Hockey Club, where he’ll be tendered for the NCDC’s Boston Dogs during the 2025-26 season.
