Centennial | Portsmouth Abbey School, Rhode Island

Message from Head of School

OptimizedImage,,,Optimized For one hundred years, Portsmouth Abbey School has been shaped by the faith, friendships and enduring sense of community that continue to connect generations of alumni, families and friends around the world. As we mark our Centennial year this September, I am delighted to invite you to join us for a year of celebrating this extraordinary milestone in the life of our School.

Throughout the 2026–27 school year, there will be many meaningful opportunities for our community to commemorate our Centennial year together. The year will begin with our All-Alumni Reunion Weekend setting the tone for a year of celebration. Throughout the months that follow, Centennial receptions will bring our community together in cities across the country and abroad. As the Christmas season approaches, we will gather for the Abbot’s Reception in New York City, a cherished tradition dating back to the 1930s. In the late spring, we will celebrate the 26th year of our Scholarship Golf Tournament, whose popularity and consistent sell-out success have solidified its place as one of our community’s most beloved outings. The Centennial year will conclude with an elegant black-tie gala at one of Newport’s most iconic historic Gilded Age mansions. Designed as the signature closing celebration of the Centennial, the evening promises to be a truly unforgettable night honoring our rich history, tradition and community in spectacular Newport fashion. Additional details for each of these events are included under Related Pages and below.

Whether you are able to return to campus, join us at an event in your hometown, or travel to a gathering near you, we look forward to celebrating this historic year with you and honoring the shared legacy that unites us all.

In Christ and in St. Benedict,

DOM HUGH DIMAN SOCIETY

Honoring teaching faculty who have devoted twenty-five or more years of service to Portsmouth Abbey School in the Benedictine tradition of faith and scholarship, work and prayer.

The Dom Hugh Diman Society recognizes faculty members whose enduring commitment has helped shape the life of Portsmouth Abbey School through decades of teaching, mentorship and example. By helping young men and women grow in knowledge and grace, these educators have advanced the School’s mission while nurturing reverence for God, a love of learning and a deep commitment to community life. Their faithful service reflects the Benedictine belief that education is not simply the pursuit of academic excellence, but the formation of the whole person, leaving a lasting influence on generations of students and colleagues.

Share your photos and memorabilia with us!

Please help us build our School Archives and celebrate our Centennial by sharing your photos and memorabilia from your time at Portsmouth.

We are interested in pre-2000 high-quality photos of faculty and students, especially of athletics and residential life (no campus photos), and unique memorabilia such as scrapbooks and athletic uniforms, with the exception of varsity jackets.

If you have items you'd like to lend or donate, please email the School archivists to discuss.
