Matthew Burgner ’25 First Raven to Reach 100+ Games

When left-winger Matthew Burgner began his hockey career at Portsmouth Abbey School, he could not have anticipated reaching the milestone of 100 varsity games played in a single sport, which is quite an accomplishment for a high school player. By the end of Holt Conference-winning season however, Burgner surpassed that with 116 games played, a first for a Raven athlete.

The son of Craig and Kathleen Burgner of Redondo Beach, California, Burgner was honored for his achievement after playing in his 100th boys varsity hockey game in January. The season continued through the championships, where the Ravens emerged victorious in the Holt conference for the first time in School history.  When reacting to the occasion, the Class of 2025 graduate exclaimed, “This is unreal. It’s been nothing shy of a wild journey.”
