When you are a Raven, you are a part of something greater. Nowhere is this more evident than on the court, ice, track, or field. With 25 varsity sports and 45 teams to choose from, every student experiences the thrill of competition and wins more than a game.
Our commitment to sportsmanship is strong. Teamwork, respect, and selflessness matter.
Abbey teams put in the effort, win championships, and successfully compete locally, regionally, and nationally. Raven athletes earn All League, All State, All New England, and All American honors. Many continue to be student-athletes at the college level. In fact, our percentage of high school to college athletes is six times the national average.
Junior varsity athletes focus on participation, skill development, and opportunities to learn a new sport.
The varsity program places a greater emphasis on competition, pursuit of excellence, and preparation for those who aspire to play in college. Our “Athletic Code of Conduct was developed by students and is articulated and reinforced throughout all levels of the athletic program.
Portsmouth Abbey School is a member of the prestigious Eastern Independent League (EIL). The EIL provides student-athletes with the opportunity for rigorous competition with schools of similar size and athletic philosophy.

Strength and Conditioning
Athletics at Portsmouth Abbey School is viewed as a key dimension of human excellence. In addition to character building and the cultivation of leadership skills, athletic participation promotes physical and mental wellness that benefits students well after graduation.
For Raven athletes, it is important to have a sense of what it really means to train and condition ourselves as competitors, especially when there is a desire to play at the collegiate level.
Our strength and conditioning program is specifically designed for high school student athletes by a certified master level trainer. In addition to regular strength and agility coaching and testing, students can follow their conditioning program via an app that keeps them informed and engaged in real time with tangible results.
