Girls' Volleyball - Varsity
The Portsmouth Abbey Volleyball team began as a club team in the 2017-18 season. Due to the overwhelming popularity and level of skill in our players, it allowed us to take the sport to the Varsity level the very next year for the 2018-2019 season. The program has found great success by focusing on team-building, having fun competitions, and providing a challenging and educational experience both on and off the court. We coaches expect that the team strives to reach their very best academically, socially, and athletically.
The 2022 team is led by our three awesome seniors: Merritt, Sarah, and Dani. Captains Merritt and Sarah are continuing the mentality that the inaugural team helped to create five years ago --- working hard, having fun, and developing character. Since joining the EIL in 2017, our program has gone through one year of the club (no matches), a one-win season, a season being one win below .500, and a COVID-19 season (no matches). Every step of the way, the girls have learned from the highs and the lows of the sport; one high culminated in the 2019 team earning the New England Sportsmanship Award. This award was a testament to the grace, class, and poise of our girls.
Additionally, individual players have also earned the following accolades: Boston Herlad All-Scholastic, All-Eastern Independent League, All-State, EIL Player of the Year (Marissa), and an invitation to the New England All-Star game. Although we were very sad to lose our graduating seniors last year, we are poised to have a strong season with the foundation they helped to build. These are just some of the reasons why the 2022 season brings with it so much potential and anticipation. Good luck this year, girls, and Go Ravens!
As a team, Portsmouth Abbey School has won the NE Sportsmanship award two out of the four years that we have been eligible!
Portsmouth Abbey Volleyball is proud to be a member of the Eastern Independent League (EIL). EIL member schools include Bancroft School, Beaver Country Day, Berwick Academy, Concord Academy, Dana Hall School, Landmark School, Lexington Christian, Newton Country Day, Pingree School, and the Winsor School.
